Amarla is an affair of the heart. We were involved in the overseeing of almost every piece of furniture. in Amarla, which has been built mostly from local wood and finished with the expert skill of a true artisan. Most our furniture was crafted by local artisans, with a few exceptions that were made by friends in Santa Marta, Colombia.

Our History

The original house that stood in the lot where Casa Amarla stands today, was originally built in 1673 as a home for an elite family of Panama. As with most of the neighborhood, it was destroyed in a great fire. In 1921, it rose from the ashes as a simple wooden building used to house the staff of the grand Casa Gongora and the Arias Perez family. From this humble beginning among the mansions we created the gorgeous little Boutique Amarla Hotel.
Our City

Panama City is essentially three cities in one. There’s our historic neighborhood, a district that’s been entirely rebuilt and a modern city of gleaming skyscrapers. Then, of course, there’s the Panama Canal, one of the seven manmade wonders of the world, linking the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean. Indeed, Panama is the only country in the world where you can watch the sun rise over the Pacific and set on the Atlantic.
